Choose LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) jacket for international installations, environmentally conscious projects, or anywhere LSZH is specified by local building codes. LSZH jackets produce minimal smoke and zero toxic halogen gases if burned, making them safer for occupied spaces and preferred in many international markets. Choose Plenum (OFNP) jacket for North American installations in air handling spaces such as raised floors, drop ceilings, or HVAC plenums. Plenum cables meet UL 910 and NFPA 262 fire safety codes specifically required for these spaces in the US and Canada. Both jacket types provide identical fiber performance — the choice depends entirely on your building codes and installation location.
Yes! This is one of the most common applications for 8-fiber breakout cables. To split a 40GBASE-SR4 QSFP+ port into four independent 10GBASE-SR connections: use an 8-fiber OM3 or OM4 MTP® breakout cable (we strongly recommend OM4 for better distance and future-proofing), connect the MTP® end directly to the QSFP+ transceiver, then connect each of the 4 LC duplex legs to separate 10G SFP+ ports. Your switch must support 40G breakout mode (also called fanout, channelization, or port splitting) — verify this in your switch configuration. With OM4 fiber you get 150m reach at 40G or 400m at 10G per channel. This is much more cost-effective than running four separate fiber cables.
Our MTP® breakout cables are available in 8-fiber configuration (MTP® Female to 4×LC duplex). This is the standard configuration for 40GBASE-SR4 breakout applications which use 8 fibers. The 8-fiber design uses 8 of the 12 available fibers in the MTP® connector, leaving 4 fibers unused but providing cleaner cable management with only 4 legs instead of 6. For applications requiring full 12-fiber utilization (6×LC duplex connections), we offer those as a separate product line. The 8-fiber configuration is ideal for 40G QSFP+ breakout (uses exactly 8 fibers), cleaner cable routing with fewer legs, and most common data center breakout scenarios. If you specifically need 6 separate device connections from one MTP® port, contact us about 12-fiber breakout options.
MTP® breakout cables are the perfect complement to MTP® cassette-based systems. A typical deployment: MTP® trunk cable runs between two locations (racks, floors, buildings), MTP® cassettes at each end convert the single MTP® trunk to multiple MTP® ports, MTP® breakout cables connect each cassette port to individual LC equipment. For example: 12-fiber OM4 MTP® trunk between racks → MTP® cassette → MTP® breakout cable from cassette to 4 switches or servers with LC ports. This architecture combines the density advantages of MTP® trunking with the flexibility of standard LC connections to equipment. Just ensure all components use compatible polarity (typically Type B) for proper fiber mapping.
Every MTP® breakout cable undergoes comprehensive factory testing before shipment. We test and document: insertion loss for all 4 duplex fiber pairs at applicable wavelengths (850nm for multimode, 1310nm for single-mode), return loss verification for MTP® connector and all LC connectors exceeding -20dB, fiber mapping verification confirming correct polarity, visual connector inspection for both MTP® and LC ends, and overall pass/fail status against TIA/IEC performance standards. Test reports are provided in PDF format with unique cable serial numbers for complete traceability. We also include MTP® connector end-face inspection images upon request for critical deployments.

All MTP® brand breakout cables include manufacturer warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. Standard warranty period is 3 years for cables with genuine US Conec MTP® connectors. Warranty covers: MTP® connector performance (insertion loss, return loss), LC connector performance on all legs, fiber integrity throughout the cable, furcation integrity and strain relief, and jacket integrity (LSZH or Plenum). Warranty does not cover damage from improper installation, exceeding bend radius specifications especially at the furcation point, connector contamination, or normal wear and tear from repeated connection cycles. Extended warranties available for critical infrastructure deployments.
